One of the 4 key pillars to overcoming this pandemic, is novel point of care tests (See my prior article: https://bit.ly/2yefgnQ). Congrats to Abbott on developing very quickly, a POC test on their device for more remote medical settings (https://bloom.bg/2WTFvKC). This should have lots of short-term impact, such as quickly determining if medical personal or first responders are infected, and benefits of quickly identifying COVID patients in an emergency room setting.
Now for our incredibly innovative biotech/diagnostic Amp network, with all the outstanding technologies that we've developed for point of care testing outside of medical settings over the past decades, who will be first to successfully launch an affordable, FDA-approved #SARS2 test for use outside a traditional medical setting?
We need to continue to find ways to thrive even if #COVID does not disappear any time soon, which is highly likely. An affordable, accurate POC test for easy use outside of a medical setting opens up a whole new set of opportunities for getting society back to full function again, even if this pesky virus sticks around for a while. It was interesting hearing governor Cuomo describe this as the key technology to put this pandemic behind us at today's NY state CORONA news briefing (See 9 min, 30 second mark of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTqhmfXLL2o&t=569s). We think it's one of 4 key pillars, but regardless, agree that it is a super important pillar to overcoming #CORONA-19.
